General Care

Stage One: Extra Oral
this looks at the health outside of the mouth.

Firstly it is vital for your health that we assess the large group of muscles that support the jaw, head, and neck. We then check your jaw joint. It is vital that we check for any clicking or crunching in this joint, as well as the movement when the jaw is opened and closed. If you are suffering with headaches or migraines, problems with this joint can often be a cause.

Stage Two: Intra Oral
this section assesses the health inside your mouth.

Soft Tissues - Your mouth is made up of many different tissues. It is important to your oral health that we check the status of the various tissues at every examination. Examples are:

- The tongue
- The checks
- The floor of the mouth
- The roof of your mouth

Examination of your gum health - one of the reasons adults in the UK lose their teeth is due to gum disease. Gum disease does not cause you any pain and can often go undetected. Our mouth changes rapidly and at each examination our dentists assess your gum health. From this point a prescription is made for the dental hygienist on areas of concern to ensure you avoid any tooth loss in the future.

Full Record Of Teeth - all patients have a computerised record of their teeth. At each visit our dentists will update this by assessing the five surfaces of each tooth for your long term health.

The way your teeth meet together - the way your teeth meet together is different for every person. However we must check at each visit that your bite is not causing you any problems. When there is a problem with your bite you will not be aware. Problems with the bite may also trigger headaches, as well as wearing away your teeth. Repairing worn teeth can be a costly experience. If we detect problems with your bite as soon as they occur this will avoid expensive treatments in the future as well as keeping your mouth healthy.

Stage Three: Oral Hygiene Evaluation
did you know that the bacteria in our mouth travel throughout your whole body?

This means the bad bacteria is travelling through your heart values and being carried to your vital organs.

At every examination we will discuss ways to improve your oral health. We all lead busy lifestyles and at times may be missing an area when cleaning. If needed we will also look at your diet and check that you are not drinking or eating anything that can cause wear or decay of the teeth.

X-rays

Dental Radiographs known as X-rays are required at times to check the inside layers of your teeth that we cannot see with the human eye. Our dentists will inform you of X-rays that need to be taken; we use the lowest dose possible to limit the quantity of radiation.

Emergency appointments

At Dental Health Care we pride ourselves on seeing anybody with pain or swelling within 24 hours. Most patients that contact the practice as soon as we open will see on the same day Monday to Friday.

We are happy to see new patients for emergency treatment. A one off standard fee of £35 will be charged to provide you with a temporary relief from pain or a broken tooth.

Children's Days

At Dental Health Care we can see children up to the age of 19 if in full time education on the NHS.
We provide this treatment on our fun filled children's days which are located throughout the year.

Halloween: Join us on October the 29th for our fun filled Halloween children's day - your child can come in fancy dress if they wish to do so? All the team at Dental Health Care will be dressed up too!

Q: Why do you have children's days?
A: A huge percentage of the adult population are nervous of seeing a dentist. The vast majority of these patients do not see a dentist.

We feel it is very important that the dentist should be a fun experience for children - we want to make sure your child does not develop fears of the dentist at any point in time. Our dentists only see children on these days so your child will never over hear strange noises that could put them off visiting the practice.

Our days are themed and the children receive goody bags and can have their photograph taken with our tooth fairy too!

Join us on our next valentines themed children's day at February half term 2010 - Call now to arrange your child's appointment. 01992 582945

Oral Hygiene Centre

To see the hygienist a prescription is required from the dentist. If you are contacting us for the first time and you wish to see our hygienist please be aware that the UK law states you have to see a dentist first for an examination.

When you visit our hygienist, she will spend time completing the following:

- Removal of any hard deposits (tartar) that has formed on your teeth.
- Detailed gum assessment to confirm your current situation with gum disease
- Oral cancer screening.
- Polishing of the teeth.
- Education on toothbrushes and other aids such as floss and brushes that suit you best as an individual.

Gum disease:
It is important to see the hygienist to ensure long term health for your mouth. It is now rare that adults lose their teeth through tooth decay. It is more common to lose your teeth through gum disease.
Gum disease is worrying as unlike many other diseases we do not feel pain or discomfort. The most common way to confirm you have gum disease is by visiting a dentist for an examination.

Fresh breath:
If you have any concerns about the freshness of your breath please do not be embarrassed to tell our dentists and hygienists. Once we are aware of your concerns we can act to ensure your confidence is restored quickly.
Our hygienist provides a high level of care for your gum health. Gum health is important to ensure we have fresh breath.
